A Quiet Corner of Light

A hanging fern and a vertical metal rain chain beside a white wall and dark wooden window frame at a Japanese-style café. Soft daylight creates a calm, minimalist atmosphere.

It was just a small café on Yangmingshan.

The kind of place people visit for photos,
for coffee,
for a slow afternoon.

Nothing particularly famous.
Nothing grand.

But something about this corner made me stop.

A fern hanging quietly from the beam.
A rain chain waiting for water.
White walls. Dark wood. Soft light.

Everything simple.
Everything enough.

In 2020, the world felt uncertain and fragile.
Travel slowed. Life narrowed.
We stayed closer to home.

Maybe that’s why small scenes like this felt bigger.

Not destinations —
just moments.

Standing there with my camera,
I wasn’t trying to capture anything special.

I only wanted to remember
how peaceful it felt
to breathe,
to sit,
to be somewhere gentle.

Sometimes healing doesn’t come from dramatic change.

Sometimes it’s just
light on a wall,
a plant swaying slightly,
and a quiet afternoon
that asks nothing from you.
