2016 · Film Photography / FM2 · Lau Pa Sat, Singapore

After two years of ups and downs,
of learning, failing, and quietly rebuilding myself,
I arrived in Singapore in the spring of 2016 for the USANA Asia-Pacific convention.
It felt less like a business trip,
and more like being carried forward by family and companions.
At dusk, the streets around Lau Pa Sat were closed to traffic.
Tables spilled onto the road.
Smoke rose into the humid air.
We sat right there on the street —
beer bottles sweating,
charcoal glowing red,
satay turning slowly over the fire.
Nothing fancy.
Just skewers, laughter, and the warmth of people I trusted.
I remember the smell more than anything.
Smoke on my clothes,
sweet sauce on my fingers,
the night air thick and alive.
Some evenings don’t ask for meaning.
They simply let you rest inside them.
