Where the Light Rests

That spring, Pat’s family came to Taiwan.

His older sister, younger sister, and niece —
their second visit since 2010.

This time we traveled together,
moving between Taiwan, Busan, and Fukuoka,
sharing trains, meals, drinks, conversations, and small discoveries along the way.

And then there was this evening in Jiufen.

The kind of light that only lasts a few minutes —
soft, golden, almost dusty in the air.

Branches stretched across the sky like ink lines,
while the mountains folded into one another,
layer after layer.

No one spoke very much.

We simply stood there,
watching the sun slowly sink.

Travel is often about arriving somewhere new.
But moments like this feel different.

Not discovery —
more like belonging.

Standing beside family,
beside the person you love,
quietly sharing the same fading light.

As if time, just for a moment,
decided to rest.

And we rested with it.
