A single figure stands between darkness and light.
The moment feels suspended —
as if something is about to happen,
but has not yet begun.
The figure neither advances nor retreats.
He simply remains — present, and aware.
—
While painting this work,
I kept thinking about a quiet kind of space —
the moment before a decision.
Not dramatic.
Not urgent.
But very real.
A pause where we stop, reflect,
and gather ourselves,
even if nothing moves yet.
—
I wasn’t trying to tell a specific story.
I wanted to leave the space open,
so that each viewer can bring their own memory,
their own feeling of being there.
—
The light is not symbolic,
and it isn’t meant to resolve anything.
It simply reveals what is already present.
—
The surface is built through layers —
glazing, dry brushing, scraping.
I chose to leave the marks visible.
So that time stays in the painting,
instead of being covered over.
—
For me, this work is less about action,
and more about standing at a threshold.
A place we return to, again and again —
especially in times of change,
when questions of who we are
and where we are going
begin to surface quietly.
—
The choice is still there.
—
At the Threshold was selected as one of the Top 100 artworks in ARTCOMP 2026. This is an important step for me, and a chance for the work to be seen by more people.
Public global voting begins on May 29, 2026.
If this work connects with you, I would really appreciate your support.
